Yoruba Union Blasts Tinubu Over Monarch Killings

A Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has accused President Bola Tinubu of failing to act as attacks on traditional rulers spread across parts of the South-West and Kwara State.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Convener, Olusola Badero, and released by Home Director, Princess Balogun, the group claimed the President has remained silent despite repeated killings and abductions.

The group alleged that several monarchs were murdered under Tinubu’s leadership and blamed Fulani extremists for the violence.

It condemned the killing of Oba Kehinde Faledun in Ondo State in February 2026, describing his death inside his palace as a grave violation of Yoruba tradition.

It also referenced earlier attacks in Ekiti and Kwara where traditional rulers were ambushed or killed in their palaces.

The union recalled past incidents, including the 2019 killing of Funke Olakunrin in Ondo State, and criticised Tinubu’s response at the time.

It argued that recent abductions in Kwara and neighbouring areas show a growing pattern of insecurity affecting royal institutions.

Calling for action, the group urged Yoruba people to speak out against what it termed unchecked violence.

It also advised traditional rulers to avoid partisan politics, warning that political ties could weaken their standing as custodians of culture and heritage.
