AAC Rejects Outcome Of FCT Poll

The African Action Congress in the Federal Capital Territory has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s council election, calling it “a disaster for democracy.”

In a statement dated February 21, 2026, the party chairman in the FCT, Agenda Robert Ande, accused Minister Nyesom Wike of interfering in the process and weakening public trust in the vote.

The party claimed the exercise was marked by voter suppression, intimidation and manipulation across parts of the territory.

It alleged that roadblocks and pressure from agents discouraged residents from coming out, leading to low turnout in several areas.

AAC also cited a remark credited to the minister, “vote and allow me the rest”, describing it as troubling.

Despite the challenges, the party said its candidates performed well in polling units where turnout was higher.

It insisted that the results showed residents were willing to back the AAC if given a fair platform and free environment to vote.

The chapter has now called for a full probe into the conduct of the election and asked the minister to step down over his alleged role.

It also urged INEC to review the process, punish anyone found guilty of wrongdoing, and ensure future elections in the FCT reflect the will of the people.
