A local resident said the gunmen blocked all access roads before shooting at anyone in sight, forcing villagers to flee in panic.

Several people were wounded, many others were taken away, and some remain missing. Bodies of victims were later prepared for mass burial as families mourned.

A lawmaker representing Bukkuyum South, Hamisu Faru, said the assault lasted for hours, with houses set ablaze and residents targeted while trying to escape.

Another villager, Abdullahi Sani, said three of his relatives were killed, adding that calls for help to security agencies brought no response.

The attack came amid fresh fears over insecurity in the state after an army armoured vehicle was hit by an explosive device along the Keta–Dangibga road while escorting motorists.

The blast caused panic in nearby areas, as the route has become known for ambushes and roadside bombs planted by armed groups.
