El-Rufai’s lawyer described the search “as unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights”.

The ICPC spokesperson was unavailable to respond when contacted, leaving questions around the operation unanswered.

The development comes a day after the commission announced it had taken the former governor into custody over ongoing investigations.

Before then, he had spent time with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and was also reportedly held by the Department of State Services.

The case traces back to allegations of financial misconduct during his time in office from 2015 to 2023.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly had earlier accused him of diverting public funds, while fresh claims involving the National Security Adviser and the DSS have further deepened the legal battle surrounding the former governor.
