Lagos Takes Firm Action At Ladipo Market

The Lagos State Government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway after repeated breaches of environmental rules.

The action followed inspections that found ongoing issues despite earlier warnings to traders and market leaders.

Officials said the closure was carried out to protect public health and ensure a safer environment for residents, commuters and business owners around the busy airport corridor.

The market sits along a major route used daily by thousands of people.

Authorities explained that enforcement teams had visited the area several times and issued directives, but conditions failed to improve. Waste disposal problems and other environmental concerns were said to have continued unchecked.

The state government noted that the market would remain sealed until all requirements are met.

Traders have been urged to comply with regulations, as officials insist that economic activity must not come at the cost of safety and cleanliness.
