Akpabio Breaks Silence On Election Law

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has spoken on the proposed changes to the Electoral Act, saying the work on the amendment is still ongoing and far from final.

He made it clear that the process remains open within the National Assembly.

He explained that the lawmakers involved are still reviewing key parts of the bill and consulting widely before any decision is taken.

According to him, the amendment has not reached the stage where firm conclusions should be drawn.


Akpabio warned that rushing to judge the proposal in public could create confusion and unnecessary tension.

He said criticism at this stage could affect the legislative process and mislead the public about the intentions of the Senate.


The Senate President assured Nigerians that all views would be considered before the amendment is concluded.

He added that the aim is to improve the electoral framework through due process rather than hurried debate.
