Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has rejected claims that new housing and infrastructure projects for judges in Abuja could weaken the independence of the judiciary.

The inspection covered the Court of Appeal complex, judges’ residential quarters, and official homes for heads of courts.
Wike said the projects are being handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration with oversight from the Federal Capital Development Authority.
He explained that the developments are part of a presidential effort to improve the working conditions of the judiciary, focusing on better welfare, security, and overall efficiency within the third arm of government.
According to the minister, providing decent accommodation for judges is meant to support their duties and does not interfere with their constitutional role, adding that a strong judiciary requires a secure and supportive environment to function well.
