The directive came from the Nigeria Union of Teachers FCT chapter, following instructions issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress to all affiliated unions in the territory.
The decision was announced in a communiqué signed by union leaders and released to the public on Monday.
Teachers were told to stay away from classrooms as part of the strike called by the Joint Union Action Committee.
The union stressed that standing together was the best way to push for unresolved demands affecting teachers.
The industrial action follows an indefinite strike by FCTA workers that began on January 19.
The demands include unpaid promotion arrears, delayed promotions, and the continued service of retired directors and permanent secretaries, with the union promising to keep members informed as talks continue.
