NAFDAC Uncovers Illegal Alcohol And Fake Oil Factory
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has uncovered an illegal factory in Lagos involved in the production of fake Goya cooking oil and the counterfeiting of alcoholic drinks, raising serious public health concerns.
The discovery was made during a targeted enforcement operation in the state, where officials traced suspicious products in circulation back to a hidden facility operating outside regulatory approval.
The products were allegedly prepared under unsafe conditions, with no regard for hygiene or quality control.
NAFDAC warned that the consumption of such fake food and drink products poses grave risks, including poisoning, organ damage and long-term health complications.
The agency stressed that counterfeit alcohol is especially dangerous due to the possible presence of toxic substances.
The regulator said investigations are ongoing to track the distribution network behind the operation and bring those responsible to justice.
Nigerians were advised to remain vigilant, buy products only from reliable sources and report any suspicious goods to authorities.
