Wike Drags FCTA Unions To Court

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja over the ongoing strike and picketing by joint unions within the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The case, filed by the minister and the FCTA, is directed at the Joint Unions Action Committee, which represents workers across departments and agencies in the territory.

The suit follows weeks of industrial action that has disrupted government offices and activities in the nation’s capital.

Court documents show that the minister accused the unions of blocking offices, restricting movement, and shutting down administrative operations.

The filing warned that the continued strike could damage economic and public activities across Abuja if left unchecked.

At the initial hearing, only lawyers representing the minister and the FCTA appeared before the court.

After reviewing the application, the presiding judge approved substituted service on the union leaders through newspaper publication and notices pasted at the FCTA secretariat.

Despite the court action, the Joint Unions Action Committee has insisted that the strike remains active. The union leadership urged workers to stay away from duty and maintain unity, saying the industrial action would continue until its demands are addressed.

The standoff sets the stage for a legal and labour confrontation in the FCT, with government operations caught between court proceedings and an uncompromising workforce.
