Afenifere Shows Support To Oyebanji
The Ekiti State leadership of Afenifere has reaffirmed its support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji and its loyalty to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation dissociated itself from a faction calling itself Afenifere Ekiti, which recently declared support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide.
Afenifere described the faction as self-serving and clarified that it has no official recognition or authority to represent the organisation.
According to the Ekiti State chapter, the so-called group has no membership in its registry and its claims of affiliation are entirely false.
Afenifere accused the faction of attempting to exploit its reputation for personal political gain and urged the public to disregard their statements.
The leadership stressed that Afenifere in Ekiti remains committed to its values, principles, and cultural ethos, and will continue to uphold its support for Oyebanji and the APC.
They further clarified that there is no connection with any other political party, including the ADC, which the rogue faction has aligned with.
The statement comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the Ekiti governorship polls, signalling that Afenifere intends to maintain its influence in state politics while rejecting attempts at misrepresentation.
