Abubakar Malami, former attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, has accused the Department of State Services of cutting him off from his family and legal team after his arrest in Abuja.

The allegation came days after he was granted bail and re-arrested outside Kuje Correctional Centre.
The situation followed Malami’s ongoing trial alongside his wife and son over money laundering claims brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Instead, DSS operatives took him into custody shortly after his release, citing an alleged discovery of arms at his residence. His camp insists this claim has no basis and says no official notice or record has been presented to support it.
According to his media aide, Malami has remained in isolation since the arrest, with no access to relatives, lawyers, or associates.
The prolonged restriction, they argue, puts his safety, wellbeing, and basic legal rights at risk while also placing emotional strain on his family.
The former minister’s team also pointed to the wider context surrounding the case, noting his recent political activities within the African Democratic Congress and his declared interest in the Kebbi governorship race in 2027, warning that legal actions should not be clouded by political interests.
