PDP Stands Firm in Ekiti 2026 Race

The Peoples Democratic Party has reaffirmed Dr Wole Oluyede as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Ekiti State, insisting that his nomination remains valid despite a recent court ruling.

The party disclosed that it filed a notice of appeal along with a request for a stay of execution after the Federal High Court nullified its governorship primaries. According to the PDP, these legal steps mean the current position remains unchanged while the appeal process runs its course.
Party leaders said attempts to weaken the PDP through court cases and political pressure would not stop its bid to return to power. They added that the challenges have only deepened the party’s resolve and strengthened its campaign ahead of the election.
The PDP also addressed the suit filed by one of its aspirants, Dr Funso Ayeni, which led to the court judgment. The party claimed there were efforts by the ruling APC to use the ruling to destabilise the opposition but said those efforts failed and the matter is now before a higher court.
Reacting to the absence of Oluyede’s name on INEC records, the PDP alleged a deliberate move to shut the party out of the election. It said legal action has already been taken to compel the electoral body to act within the law, while urging supporters to stay focused and step up mobilisation across the state ahead of the poll.
