Fayose Warns ADC Over Obi Ticket

Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has said the African Democratic Congress could fade from national attention if it does not present Peter Obi as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

He spoke during a political programme on Arise TV, where he linked the party’s current visibility to Obi’s presence and growing influence within opposition politics.
Fayose argued that Obi remains the main attraction around the ADC, adding that his political weight goes beyond party structures and often reshapes electoral outcomes wherever he aligns.

He pointed to the 2023 elections, where Obi’s move to the Labour Party helped lift the party from obscurity and led to unexpected victories in legislative races across the country.
According to Fayose, denying Obi the ADC ticket would weaken the party’s prospects and leave it worse off than before ongoing coalition talks, even as opposition groups weigh strategies for the 2027 race.
