This was made known by Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 polls, during a television interview.

Baba-Ahmed said the Labour Party remains open to Obi and would welcome him back without resistance if his bid within the ADC does not work out. He noted that Obi’s political roots and past presidential run were built on the Labour Party platform.
The comment followed Obi’s recent decision to align with an opposition coalition operating under the ADC, nearly three years after both politicians contested the presidency together on the Labour Party ticket.

Baba-Ahmed also addressed reports claiming he had declared interest in the 2027 presidential race. He dismissed the reports, stating that he only reaffirmed his membership of the Labour Party and had not made any formal move to contest.
He explained that discussions around future elections should wait for the official timetable from the electoral body and guidance from political parties, adding that online reactions and social media narratives had fueled confusion around his position.
