Obidient Movement Says Obi Must Run for President

The Obidient Movement has ruled out any plan to support Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting its support is only for his bid to become Nigeria’s president.

The group made this known on Saturday after growing public debate over comments made by its National Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, during a television interview on political alignment within the African Democratic Congress.
The movement said the remarks were twisted to suggest Obi might accept a deputy role if another candidate, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, emerges from the ADC primary.
It clarified that while it operates within the ADC for now, its loyalty is not to any party structure but to Obi’s leadership vision and the push for political reform.

According to the group, its goal remains unchanged and focused on producing a new kind of leadership through lawful and democratic means, with Obi as the presidential candidate.
The movement added that it would only respect the outcome of the ADC primary if the process is fair and transparent, stressing that it would follow Obi wherever he lawfully chooses to pursue his presidential ambition.
