Kebbi State will reopen all public and private primary and secondary schools on Monday, January 5, 2026, marking the start of the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session after weeks of closure across the state.

The directive was issued on Friday by the state government through joint statements from the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board and the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, covering schools in both urban and rural areas.
The decision follows the earlier shutdown ordered after the abduction of 25 students in Zuru, an incident that raised serious security concerns and forced schools to suspend activities statewide.

State officials said the reopening is part of efforts to keep the academic calendar on track after the successful completion of the first term, assuring parents and school owners that steps have been taken to support a smooth return to learning.
School heads have been directed to ensure teachers, facilities, and learning materials are ready, while parents and guardians were urged to make sure their children return to school promptly to avoid disruptions.
Authorities also announced that the first week of the term will be used to complete outstanding first-term examinations, with full classroom teaching set to begin on January 12, 2026, as monitoring teams move around the state to enforce compliance.
