His decision was confirmed through a formal letter sent to his ward leadership in Ampang West, marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
The move took place on December 29, 2025, and became public in Jos shortly after the letter surfaced. It followed weeks of quiet talks and growing rumours about the governor’s future within the party.

Mutfwang addressed his resignation to the PDP chairman of his ward, thanking the party for giving him the platform to contest elections and serve the people. He acknowledged the backing he received from party leaders and members during his time in the PDP.
The governor said his decision was driven by a desire to better serve Plateau State. He pointed to the need for clear direction, focused leadership, and improved service delivery as reasons for seeking a new political path.

Although he did not name his new party in the letter, the development comes amid strong reports that he has joined the All Progressives Congress. The APC leadership at the national level has already welcomed him and expressed readiness to work with him.
Mutfwang’s exit signals a turning point ahead of the 2027 elections, as political alignments continue to shift across the country. His defection adds to the growing wave of high-profile moves reshaping Nigeria’s political scene.
