Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using federal agencies to harass opposition figures, claiming he was indirectly labelled a terrorism suspect for refusing to defect to the All Progressives Congress.

The governor spoke on Wednesday while reacting to the arraignment of his Commissioner of Finance by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged terrorism financing and money laundering involving billions of naira.
Mohammed said his name was mentioned in court filings despite his constitutional immunity as a sitting governor, describing the move as reckless and politically driven. He alleged that the Federal Government was pressuring him because he declined to join the ruling party.
He also criticised the Tinubu administration’s proposed tax reforms, warning they would worsen hardship for citizens and weaken state governments.

According to him, the Federal Government retains most national resources yet has failed to deliver basic infrastructure and security support in Bauchi.
The governor said Bauchi’s relative peace was achieved through community cooperation, not federal intervention, and warned that continued intimidation of opposition leaders could escalate political tension.
Mohammed insisted he would not be forced into the APC and vowed to continue speaking out against policies he said were hurting ordinary Nigerians.
