Residents Ask Olubadan To Step Into Circular Road Land Dispute

Residents affected by the Ibadan Circular Road Project have appealed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abdul Rashidi Ladoja, to intervene in what they described as growing confusion, fear and loss of trust surrounding land acquisition for the project.

In an open letter signed by leaders of the Ibadan Circular Road Corridor Residents, the affected communities said they support development but are worried about how the project is being handled across six local government areas. They accused the government’s stakeholder engagement committee of poor communication and selective information sharing, which they said has left residents feeling excluded and unfairly portrayed as troublemakers.
The group claimed they were asked to stop speaking publicly while the committee continued media engagements, a situation they said damaged trust and created suspicion that their lands were being illegally acquired. They also said outcomes of meetings held with the Olubadan were not communicated to those directly affected.

The residents urged the monarch to ensure transparency, open dialogue and proper consultation. They asked the Oyo State Government to return to the original 75-metre acquisition approved in 2006, warning that any expansion could violate due process and trigger legal battles.
They also demanded fair and prompt compensation before demolitions, protection of existing communities within the original corridor, and the right to obtain land documents without harassment.
While reaffirming support for the Circular Road project, the residents stressed that development must be humane, lawful and people-focused, expressing confidence that the Olubadan’s intervention would restore trust and peace.
