The visit took place at the Assembly Quarters, where Wike met the lawmakers and described their actions as a bold defence of democratic values and constitutional authority at a tense moment in the state’s history.
Wike said the lawmakers showed courage by refusing to bow to pressure, even when their official benefits were withheld before the declaration of a state of emergency, noting that such treatment of elected representatives was wrong.

He praised the unity among the legislators and their families, saying their resolve proved that leadership goes beyond money or intimidation and rests on clear principles and personal conviction.
The minister added that the Rivers Assembly had set an example for the rest of the country by asserting its independence as a separate arm of government, rather than acting as an extension of the executive.

Wike concluded that their stance had earned them national respect, stressing that strong leadership brings order and progress, and urging them to remain steadfast as they continue to serve the people of Rivers State.
