Taraba Assembly Clears Air On N1,000 Christmas Claim

In Taraba State, the House of Assembly has denied claims that its Speaker, John Bonzena, gave only N1,000 to constituents as a Christmas gift, saying the report misrepresented what actually happened.

The clarification came on Saturday from the Assembly and the Zing Watch Group after stories spread that women and youths from Zing Local Government Area were disappointed during a visit to the Speaker’s residence in Jalingo.
According to the Assembly, the issue arose after some constituents travelled to Jalingo believing a Christmas outreach would take place there, while the main event was scheduled for Yakoko, the Speaker’s hometown in Zing.
The House explained that the N1,000 gesture was shared with children and young women living around the Speaker’s Jalingo residence, not with visiting constituents, who were advised to return to Yakoko for the main programme.

At the Yakoko gathering, community leaders, youths, women groups and party members met with the Speaker and received food items, clothing materials and small funds to support businesses.
The Assembly and the Zing Watch Group urged the public to disregard false reports, noting that the Speaker has continued to support his constituency through development projects and welfare programmes over the past year.
