The claim involved the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which had listed Adichie among individuals appointed as visiting professors, alongside an official from the African Development Bank.
The issue surfaced this week after UNN said appointment letters dated December 18 were signed by the vice-chancellor and made public through the university’s spokesperson.

Adichie’s media team stated that she neither received any appointment letter nor held discussions with the university about a visiting professorship role.
According to her representatives, the reports circulating in the media do not reflect reality, as no agreement or acceptance was ever made by the writer.
While Adichie expressed respect for the institution and its academic standing, she made it clear that the reported appointment did not happen and should be disregarded.
