PDP Factions Speak As INEC Steps In

Leaders of the two rival blocs within the Peoples Democratic Party say the party remains steady and ready to meet public expectations after talks with the electoral umpire in Abuja.

The assurance came on Friday after representatives of both sides met with the Independent National Electoral Commission to address the leadership dispute that has split the party.
The closed-door session held at INEC headquarters followed growing concerns over conflicting directives and letters sent to the commission by opposing party officials.

Those present included the group led by acting national chairman Tanimu Turaki and the faction aligned with national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, alongside INEC officials who convened the meeting.
The intervention became necessary as the crisis began to affect preparations for upcoming elections, raising fears that the party could be shut out or weakened in key contests.

After the meeting, both camps said discussions were frank and constructive, adding that INEC promised to study the issues raised and respond, while the party continues internal efforts to resolve differences and remain a strong opposition force.
