A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has allowed former Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige to remain on bail as he faces trial over alleged financial misconduct.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday at the Gwarinpa division of the court, where Justice Mariam Hassan reviewed arguments from both the defence and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Ngige is being prosecuted by the EFCC over claims linked to his time as supervising minister of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, involving alleged contract fraud and unlawful benefits.

The court decided that the administrative bail earlier granted by the EFCC should continue, but ordered stricter conditions to ensure Ngige remains available for trial.
As part of the new terms, Ngige must present a surety who is a serving director in the federal civil service and owns landed property, with relevant documents to be deposited with the court.
The judge said the added conditions were necessary to address concerns raised by prosecutors, especially over Ngige’s travel documents, as the case proceeds to full hearing.
