After the engagement, NLC president Joe Ajaero said the talks were consultative and not a final agreement, explaining that labour leaders would first brief their internal organs before taking any public position.

He said the congress would study the president’s explanations and continue discussions within its leadership structure before deciding whether to proceed with the protest.

Imo State Governor and APC Governors Forum chairman Hope Uzodinma, who attended the meeting, said dialogue remained the best path to resolving issues between labour and the federal government, noting that all sides were acting in the national interest.

The Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, said labour leaders appreciated the opportunity to engage directly with the president and left the meeting reassured, as the NLC prepares to reconvene and announce its next steps.
