Labour Union Workers Defies Talks, Begins Lagos Protest

Organised labour on Wednesday moved ahead with a protest in Lagos over rising insecurity, even after late night talks between union leaders and President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

The action was led by the Nigeria Labour Congress, whose members said growing violence and fear across the country pushed them to take to the streets.

The protest unfolded in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial centre, where workers assembled early and marched through key areas under the watch of security agencies.

The demonstration came hours after labour leaders met the president at the Presidential Villa, a meeting meant to calm tensions and address concerns over safety nationwide.

Despite the talks, labour leaders said conditions on the ground showed little change, leaving workers and ordinary citizens exposed to daily risks.

The congress said the protest is aimed at pressing the government to act faster and more firmly to secure lives and restore confidence among Nigerians.
