Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State and a founding figure in the Peoples Democratic Party, says he is still a member of the PDP despite what he described as repeated unfair treatment toward him and his supporters.

He made the declaration on Monday while meeting party loyalists at his office in the Sharada area of Kano, where he addressed growing concerns over his political future.

Lamido said internal problems continue to shake the PDP but noted that discussions are ongoing at the national level to find a way forward. He said he has been in contact with senior party figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who have assured him that efforts are being made to resolve the crisis.

He explained that a key meeting scheduled for the end of December 2025 would shape his next steps, adding that while he remains in the PDP, he is not ruling out cooperation with other political parties if the situation does not improve.
The former governor also revisited his earlier objection to the executive committee formed at the party’s Ibadan convention, insisting the gathering was improper and should be corrected to avoid deeper divisions within the party.
Lamido further expressed displeasure over what he called the unfair handling of his bid for the PDP national chairmanship, saying such actions weaken party unity. The meeting drew strong support, with former commissioners, local government chairmen, lawmakers, party leaders and women representatives from across Jigawa State in attendance.
