Aisha Buhari has revealed that rumours inside the Presidential Villa once strained her relationship with her husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and affected his health while he was in office.
She said the issue arose in Aso Rock when false claims circulated that she intended to harm him, leading Buhari to briefly distrust her and alter his daily routine, including locking his room.
The former First Lady explained that the situation happened during Buhari’s presidency, a period marked by intense pressure and internal intrigue within the seat of power.
According to her account, the gossip disrupted a carefully planned feeding and supplement schedule she had managed for years, which Buhari depended on due to long-standing nutrition challenges.
She said missed meals and poor handling of his diet weakened him over time, eventually contributing to the health crisis that forced him to spend months receiving treatment in London in 2017.
Aisha Buhari insisted the illness had nothing to do with poisoning, stating that the real cause was the breakdown of his nutrition routine, a story detailed in a newly released biography that sheds light on hidden tensions inside the presidency.
