The denial came on Monday after a post by ADC News circulated online, quoting him as saying he would not contest because it was the South’s turn to produce the next president.

El Rufai said the claim was false and warned the public against attributing statements to him that did not come directly from his verified social media pages or recognised media interviews.

He explained that opinion articles shared on his platforms should not be mistaken as his personal views, adding that careless attribution fuels fake news and damages public trust.

The former governor criticised some media figures for failing to verify the viral post, saying such actions encourage false narratives and reckless political talk.

He maintained that he never made such remarks in any speech, interview or post, while noting that the ADC, his current party, is not focused on zoning and has possible contenders from both the North and South.
