The African Democratic Congress says it is worried that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi may not agree to run together on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 election.

The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, shared the concern during an interview on Arise News, noting that while many Nigerians expect both men to form a joint ticket, nothing has been settled.

Abdullahi explained that the ADC is still building its nationwide structure and will adopt a consensus approach for choosing a presidential candidate. He said that if consensus fails, every interested aspirant will be allowed to contest. According to him, the party is not focused only on Atiku and Obi, as several others have shown interest in the ticket.

He accused the ruling APC of trying to weaken opposition parties through deliberate destabilisation. Abdullahi said many defections to the APC are driven by fear, not genuine belief in the ruling party, adding that some governors prefer to secure their political safety rather than show real conviction.
Abdullahi also claimed that the ADC has become more influential than the PDP within the opposition space. He said the APC’s actions have pushed many politicians toward the ADC, strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 race.
