ADC Sets Focus On Building Trusted Opposition

The African Democratic Congress has made clear that its main priority ahead of 2027 is building a strong opposition that Nigerians can rely on.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC is not considering zoning issues for now, as its energy is centred on expanding nationwide and earning public trust.

The party’s rise has been rapid, with offices already opened in 28 states within five months. Its leaders believe this growth has helped stop Nigeria’s drift toward a one-party system. They argue that Nigerians now have an opposition platform ready to challenge any form of poor leadership or wrong policy direction.

ADC leaders maintain that their next challenge is proving they can govern by presenting clear plans and credible ideas. They say the task ahead includes completing membership registration across all states and strengthening internal party structures to support long-term growth.

Party officials also insist that zoning conversations are coming too early. They describe such debates as strategic and better left until the party finishes building its foundation. For now, they say the goal is to convince Nigerians that the ADC offers a dependable alternative rather than a quick path to power.

Abdullahi explained that the party has built a system that prevents any individual or group from taking control. He noted that many ADC members came from troubled political parties and wanted a platform free from the internal conflicts that weakened their former organisations.

The party believes that unchecked ambition has broken many political groups, which is why no member has openly declared interest in governorship, senate, or presidential races. Leaders say the priority is to build a united party strong enough to accommodate everyone’s dreams later.

The ADC concludes that its mission is to grow steadily, stay internally stable, and guard against external influence while preparing itself to serve as a real alternative for Nigerians in the years ahead.
