Former Kano governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has urged members of the All Progressives Congress in the state to stop promoting preferred candidates for the 2027 governorship race.
His warning comes as some party figures have already begun backing Senator Barau Jibrin, sparking debate within the party.
The caution became necessary after public endorsements triggered tension among party supporters, with Ganduje refusing to align himself with any aspirant at this early stage. One of the senator’s supporters, Baffa Takai, later withdrew his endorsement and apologised to the party.
Ganduje, speaking during a radio conversation, explained that early support for individuals could create avoidable divisions. He appealed to loyalists to hold off on open campaigning until the party begins its formal selection process.
The former APC National Chairman noted that the party will have a candidate when the time comes, but said unity must be protected ahead of the election season.
