The Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger State is awaiting official confirmation on reports that 100 abducted students from Agwara have regained their freedom.

The state chairman, Bishop Bulus Yohanne, said the church community is hopeful but has not received verified information from authorities.

The situation began on November 21 when armed men attacked St. Mary Private Catholic Schools in Papiri and took away more than 300 pupils, students, and staff. Within two days, 50 pupils managed to escape and returned home. The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, later visited the school to reassure parents that the children were alive and would return.

News of 100 students being freed began circulating on Sunday, raising hope among parents and church members. Bishop Yohanne said the development, if true, would answer the many prayers offered since the abduction, but noted that official confirmation is still expected. He added that the community continues to look forward to the return of all remaining captives.
Reactions also came from outside the state. Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and retired Major General John Enenche praised the Federal Government and security agencies after Channels Television announced the reported release. Sule described the update as encouraging and commended the teamwork behind the rescue efforts.
Across Niger State, Christians responded to the crisis with a three-day fasting and prayer programme that ended on Sunday at the 1st ECWA Church in Minna. Worshippers from different denominations gathered to seek divine intervention for the 265 children and teachers still being held. Speakers at the event urged Nigerians to stay united in prayer until every abducted person returns home.
The Organisation of African Instituted Churches also extended support to the Kontagora Diocese, families, and victims. The group expressed hope that the ongoing prayers and efforts will soon lead to the safe return of all those still in captivity.
