NBA Gives Adeleke Seven Days To End Court Shutdown

The Nigerian Bar Association in Osun State has asked Governor Ademola Adeleke to end the months-long closure of courts within seven days.

The appeal was issued in a letter dated December 8, 2025, signed by the chairmen of all five NBA branches in the state and shared with key government officials.

The crisis began on September 22 when the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria withdrew services over stalled welfare demands and pending promotions. The shutdown has since halted judicial activities across the state, forcing lawyers to warn that the situation could push Osun toward a breakdown of order.

The NBA said its efforts to mediate have failed, noting that JUSUN leaders avoided a joint meeting arranged with the Chief Judge and that some members of the Judicial Service Commission appointed by the governor also failed to attend. The Association said this made it impossible to address the issues fueling the strike.

The lawyers urged Adeleke to persuade JUSUN to return to work, assure workers that their grievances will be handled through a clear and time-bound process, and direct all Judicial Service Commission members to fully participate in meetings led by the Chief Judge so that the deadlock can be resolved.
