Afe Babalola Urges Bold Steps On Rising Insecurity

Aare Afe Babalola has warned that Nigerians are living in growing fear as insecurity spreads across the country.

The founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti called on President Bola Tinubu to take stronger action to protect citizens and restore confidence in daily life.

He raised the alarm during an event at ABUAD held to mark the 16-Day Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, organised in partnership with UN Women. His remarks drew attention to the struggles many Nigerians face as attacks on schools, roads, and farms continue.

Babalola pointed to the constitutional duty of the government to protect lives and welfare, insisting that safety must become the top priority. He warned that insecurity now affects everyone, making ordinary activities risky for people across the country.

He also linked the situation to wider concerns about development, saying that rising violence threatens national progress. He urged the government to secure farmlands, roads, and learning environments so that citizens can work without fear.

Reflecting on his institution’s values, Babalola noted that ABUAD has recorded no cases of sexual abuse since its creation. He praised the achievements of young women at the university, noting that most First-Class graduates are female, while stressing that all genders deserve safety and fair treatment.

ABUAD’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Smaranda Olarinde, restated the school’s commitment to working with government and development partners. She said the institution will continue pushing for stronger protection for women, girls, and other vulnerable groups as part of a safer society for all.
