Kogi Council Enforces Curfew As insecurity Grows

Authorities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State have introduced a strict dusk-to-dawn curfew to curb rising attacks and unrest.

The curfew, which runs from 7 pm to 6 am each day, began on December 2 and will continue until the area is considered safe again.

The council explained that the decision follows repeated security breaches that have left communities on edge. Local officials said security teams have been placed on full alert, with 24-hour surveillance and intensified patrols now covering all parts of the LGA.

Security agencies have also been ordered to step up checks at every entry point into the council area. Border routes are now subject to constant stop-and-search operations, supported by a fully deployed Joint Task Force.

The new measure also affects religious and social activities. Public gatherings, including Moulud celebrations, Christian vigils and similar events, have been suspended. Fireworks have been banned, and worship centres have been asked to shorten their services for the time being.

Residents have been urged to obey the restrictions and work closely with security operatives. Local authorities say cooperation from the community will help calm the situation and allow normal activities to return.

Omala has faced repeated kidnappings and communal clashes in recent months, prompting the Kogi State Government to set up a forward operational base to tackle the growing tension and improve security across affected communities.
