Adebayo Adedamola has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party governorship ticket for the 2026 Osun election after a decisive win at the party’s primary in Osogbo on Tuesday.

He secured 919 of the 957 valid votes cast.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the primary committee, Humphrey Abba, said there were 20 void votes. He noted that although two names were originally on the ballot—Governor Ademola Adeleke and Adedamola—Adeleke had withdrawn from the race after resigning from the PDP. Delegates were therefore told that any vote cast for Adeleke would not count.

The primary opened shortly after accreditation ended around 11:35 a.m. Committee secretary Sunday Solarin reminded delegates that Adeleke’s exit from the party meant Adedamola was the only eligible contender.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and representatives from the PDP national headquarters monitored the exercise, while security personnel from the DSS, police, and NSCDC secured the venue.
Proceedings began at 11:07 a.m. as delegates checked in and took turns to vote.
Adeleke’s resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, was addressed to his ward chairman in Ede North. In the letter, he cited the crisis in the PDP’s national leadership as his reason for leaving. The state commissioner for information, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the development on a radio programme, saying Adeleke stepped down due to the unresolved issues within the party.
