The appointment was announced on Tuesday after the NWC’s 610th meeting in Abuja. According to National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong, the decision followed the expulsion of Abdulrahman Mohammed at the party’s Ibadan national convention held between November 15 and 16. Mohammed, who previously held the position, is now serving as acting national chairman of the faction aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Orogu, who until now was secretary of the North Central Zonal Executive Committee, will occupy the role pending the election of a substantive vice-chairman for the zone.

The NWC urged PDP members, particularly in the North Central, to remain united and work with Orogu as the party navigates its internal crisis.

The Forum of State Chairmen of the PDP also reaffirmed its backing for the Turaki-led NWC, describing the 20-member leadership team as a stabilising force. In a statement signed by forum chairman Tony Aziegbemi, the group praised PDP governors for helping steady the party and thanked Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for hosting a smooth national convention in Ibadan.
