A fresh twist has emerged in the leadership battle within the African Democratic Congress as the faction led by Hon. Leke Abejide openly backed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election and installed new party executives in Kogi State.

The group announced Hon. Sunday Maiyaki as state chairman and Mamman Akpena as secretary, insisting the appointments followed party rules.

The development was confirmed in a statement from Abejide’s media aide, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, who said the faction was acting within the provisions of the ADC constitution. He also maintained that Abejide remained a member of the party and dismissed claims of his expulsion as political propaganda.

The decision was unveiled at the ADC Stakeholders Forum in Lokoja, where Abejide urged members to adopt a practical political direction as the next election cycle approaches. He recalled his earlier support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election and said the party must position itself wisely if it hopes to remain relevant.
Abejide blamed the internal conflict on the exit of former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, accusing him of handing control to individuals with interests outside the party. He said any move not backed by the constitution cannot hold, pointing to Article 9(4) as the guiding authority.
The faction also announced plans to hold a national convention once ongoing court cases tied to the ADC coalition dispute are resolved. Mohammed added that Abejide continues to enjoy backing from members who want stability and a clear political direction.
Abejide urged stakeholders to avoid unrealistic pursuits and focus on forming alliances that can give the party a stronger footing ahead of 2027.
