In a statement, the Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman, said the decision was taken after wide consultations and growing alerts about threats to students, teachers and school communities. He described the shutdown as difficult but necessary, noting that the safety of children must come before every other consideration.

Usman urged parents, guardians and school owners to remain calm, assuring them that the government is working with security agencies to tackle the situation and restore normal academic activities once it is safe. He appealed to residents to support ongoing security efforts by reporting suspicious movements or activities.

The shutdown follows recent abductions of pupils and students in Kebbi and Niger states, incidents that have deepened concerns about security across the northern region.
