The Senate has confirmed the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North until his passing, and has extended its condolences to his family.

The announcement was issued on Wednesday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, who leads the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Lawmakers learned of the loss through an earlier message from the Ezea family. Ezea was known in the chamber as a dedicated Labour Party member and a steady voice in debates. He entered the Senate in 2023 and began his service as Chairman of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions before moving into other leadership roles.

He later became Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development and also held the same position in the Committees on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, and on Culture and Creative Economy. His work included sponsoring the bill to create the Federal College of Agriculture in Adani and pushing for the creation of Adada State, a cause he pursued with strong resolve.
Ezea also raised motions calling for better security in troubled communities, including the request for a military base in Uzo-Uwani after repeated attacks by bandits. Beyond the Senate, he previously chaired the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The Senate said it shares the pain of his loss with his constituents, the people of Enugu State and his family, and wished him peaceful rest.
