Anyanwu Pushes Back After PDP Expulsion

Samuel Anyanwu has rejected his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party, insisting that the party’s weekend convention in Ibadan was nothing more than a political show lacking legitimacy.

He made his position known on Sunday during a television interview, where he dismissed the exercise as a gathering that failed to meet basic internal standards.

The convention, which ran from Saturday into early Sunday, led to the expulsion of several high-profile figures, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, Umar Bature, Ajibade Kamarudeen and others. It also produced a sweeping dissolution of party structures across Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

Anyanwu argued that the entire process fell short of the party’s own rules, claiming that many states had not completed their congresses and therefore could not send delegates. He said the absence of these delegations made the event incomplete and unrepresentative, further calling into question the legality of the decisions taken.

He maintained that the organisers lacked the authority to expel him and pointed to existing court orders relating to his earlier suspension. According to him, the actions taken at the convention ignored ongoing legal matters and failed to meet due process requirements.

Anyanwu said he had already sought legal intervention in the matter and insisted that any attempt to remove him from the party must comply fully with court directives. His remarks reflect deepening internal rifts within the PDP as the party navigates competing factions and legal disputes.

The Ibadan meeting concluded with the election of a new leadership team headed by former minister Kabiru Turaki, marking another shift in the party’s turbulent national structure.
