The Peoples Democratic Party has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees in Abuja, marking what its acting national chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, described as a rebirth after months of internal crisis.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, November 7, 2025, brought together party elders, members of the National Working Committee, and key stakeholders to reaffirm the PDP’s founding ideals of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.

Muhammad said the event symbolized a return to the principles that once made the PDP the pride of Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that in recent years, poor leadership, disregard for court rulings, and weakened internal democracy had damaged the party’s image and unity.
He recalled how the former Board, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, became divided and ineffective, while the past leadership under Ambassador Umar Damagum placed personal interests above the party’s constitution. This, he said, forced concerned members to seek legal redress to save the PDP from internal collapse.

According to him, the Federal High Court’s judgment that followed was not an attack but a reminder that no political body is above the law. He said the ruling created an opportunity for renewal and a return to discipline and order.
Muhammad described the new Board as the moral compass of the party, urging its members to act with courage, fairness, and integrity. He admitted that the PDP’s decline began when zoning principles were abandoned before the 2015 elections, allowing ambition to override equity.
He assured members that under the current leadership, the PDP will operate with transparency, obey court judgments, and conduct its congresses fairly. He also said the party will no longer use “internal affairs” as an excuse for lawlessness.
Muhammad ended by calling on members to unite and rebuild the party’s moral foundation, saying this new chapter marks the beginning of renewal and reconciliation that will restore the PDP’s place as a leading voice in Nigeria’s democracy.
