APC Urges Southwest Leaders To Act On Akure Summit Resolutions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West has urged governors and political leaders across the region to move from discussion to action by implementing the resolutions reached at the recent South West Stakeholders’ Dialogue held in Akure, Ondo State.

The summit, organised by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission) in partnership with the Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) and the governments of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, and Oyo States, focused on strategies to boost regional cooperation, infrastructure growth, and economic revival.

In a statement released in Ibadan by the APC Zonal Publicity Secretary, Ayobami Afolabi, the party praised President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to create development commissions across the nation’s geopolitical zones, describing it as a new path toward sustainable federalism and regional self-reliance.

The party noted that the Akure summit showcased strong representation from diverse sectors and reflected a renewed determination among Yoruba leaders to replicate the visionary governance style that once defined the defunct Western Region under Chief Obafemi Awolowo. It said the summit provided a framework for unity, innovation, and economic collaboration among South West states.

Afolabi commended the organisers for hosting a non-partisan event that drew participation from across political and social divides, allowing for open discussions on how to reposition the region. He said the deliberations demonstrated that the people of Yorubaland remain conscious of their shared values and collective potential to transform the region into a model of progress.

The APC, however, cautioned that the success of the dialogue would depend on how quickly the leaders and institutions involved put the summit’s recommendations into action. It stressed that translating the ideas discussed into tangible projects would determine whether the South West can achieve a new era of development marked by strong governance, regional cooperation, and inclusive growth.
