President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Osun, Dr. Phillip Ajibade, confirmed the development on Saturday, saying the action followed a directive from the NARD national leadership.

“The NARD president was clear. He directed all resident doctors across Nigeria to begin a total, indefinite, and comprehensive strike. As an affiliate, ARD UTH Osogbo has complied. The issues NARD is fighting for also affect us,” Ajibade said.

NARD National President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, in a statement earlier on Saturday, said the strike followed the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.

He explained that the decision became necessary after several unfulfilled promises and failed meetings with government officials on better conditions of service, payment of arrears, and improved welfare for doctors nationwide.
