Reno Omokri Says Peter Obi Will Lose Lagos And South South In 2027

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has predicted that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will lose both Lagos and the South-South regions in the 2027 general election.

In a statement released on Sunday, Omokri said Obi’s recent comments and political positions have alienated the same regions that gave him strong support during the 2023 election. He argued that the former Anambra governor’s criticism of infrastructure concentration in Lagos and his stance on major federal projects have eroded his popularity.

Omokri recalled Obi’s remark that Nigeria’s infrastructure development was “too concentrated in Lagos,” saying such a statement would be seen by residents as a direct threat to their city’s economic progress. According to him, voters in Lagos are unlikely to back a politician perceived as opposed to their growth and development.

He explained that Obi’s position might be interpreted as a plan to divert future federal projects from Lagos to other regions, a move that would make Lagosians view him as unfriendly to their interests. Omokri said this political misstep mirrors the backlash former President Goodluck Jonathan faced in 2012 when his government removed fuel subsidies, a move that angered voters.

Omokri also took issue with Obi’s criticism of the ₦15 trillion Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as another major error that could cost him votes in the South-South. He noted that the project enjoys wide support in the region, and opposing it sends the wrong message to voters who expect better connectivity and economic opportunities.

He questioned why Obi would ask for the cancellation of a project that benefits the South-South while remaining silent on other regional infrastructure initiatives. Omokri said such inconsistency paints Obi as politically tone-deaf and out of touch with regional aspirations.

According to him, the combination of these missteps will weaken Obi’s influence and ensure he loses the Lagos and South-South votes that contributed to his strong performance in the 2023 election.
