At Monday’s court session in Abuja, Kanu, who recently dismissed his legal team and chose to represent himself, told the court that he found no valid charge in his case file. He said the charges have no legal basis under Nigerian law and should be dismissed.

Kanu told the court that after reviewing the documents, he discovered nothing that constitutes an offence recognised by law. He urged the judge to either release him immediately or grant him bail since, according to him, the prosecution has failed to establish any lawful ground for his continued trial.

The IPOB leader insisted that the charges brought against him cannot stand in any Nigerian court, arguing that there is no existing law that supports them. He maintained that proceeding with the case would amount to enforcing a charge that does not exist in law.

The case, which has dragged on for years, continues to generate strong reactions from supporters and observers who view it as a major test of Nigeria’s judicial process and handling of political dissent.
