Former Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to head its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.

The ECOWAS Commission announced the appointment in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.

The Ivorian presidential election is set for October 25, with the ECOWAS mission scheduled to be on ground from October 19 to 29, in line with the bloc’s Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

As head of the mission, Osinbajo will lead a team of eminent West Africans to engage key national stakeholders, promote dialogue, and support a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The mission will also collaborate with domestic and international observer groups to assess the credibility and transparency of the polls.
According to ECOWAS, the deployment reflects its continued commitment to strengthening democracy, peace, and stability across West Africa.
