Chairmanship hopeful for Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Honourable Ikponmwosa Clement Aitusi, has praised President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for ensuring Edo’s inclusion in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Aitusi described the decision as a major win for Edo State, especially for his constituency, which will benefit from the 100-kilometre stretch of the highway now set to pass through the state. He said the move would boost economic activities, attract investors, and open up rural communities along the coastal line.

The development followed an announcement by Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the Edo State Independence Gala Night held at the State Villa in Benin City. Umahi explained that Edo was not originally part of the highway’s design, which was first conceived decades ago by President Tinubu, but the plan was later adjusted to include the state.

Aitusi commended Governor Okpebholo for engaging closely with the presidency to secure Edo’s place in the national infrastructure project. He said such collaboration between the federal and state governments would transform transportation and commerce in the region.
The All Progressives Congress aspirant also pledged that if elected as chairman, he would use the opportunity provided by the new highway to develop Ikpoba-Okha’s rural areas and grow the council’s revenue base through improved access to markets and businesses.
The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has scheduled party primaries for local government elections between November 10 and 29, 2025, as political activities gather momentum across the state.
